Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Jazykovedný časopis (Journal of Linguistics) publishes original linguistic research focusing on language theory, structure, and its societal and historical function. The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, analytical articles, and reviews.

Languages accepted: all Slavic languages, English, German.

Each article must include:

  • Abstract in English (100–200 words)
  • Keywords in English (3–8 words)
  • Articles not in Slovak/Czech must include a Slovak summary (400–600 words), translated by editors.

Peer review process: scholarly articles are reviewed anonymously by two reviewers; other contributions by one reviewer. Authors receive reviewer reports without disclosing reviewer identities.

Technical requirements:

  • Submissions must be in electronic form (Microsoft Word, Times New Roman 12, 1.5 line spacing)
  • If the text contains special characters, tables, graphs, etc., please also submit a PDF version
  • Author's full name and institutional affiliation must be included
  • Text should be left-aligned only, with no word breaking at line ends; hard line breaks only at paragraph ends
  • Paragraphs must be indented
  • Italics should be used for titles of works and examples
  • Bold font is used for subheadings and key terms
  • In-text references should follow the format: (Horecký 1956, p. 95)
  • Full list of references must be provided at the end of the article (not in footnotes) in alphabetical order. If the list includes multiple works by the same author, they should be listed chronologically.
