Editorial Policy

As an international, open-access journal published by the Institute of Hydrology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Journal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics (JHH) is dedicated to the dissemination of high-quality, peer-reviewed research in the fields of hydrology and hydromechanics. The editorial policies outlined below are designed to ensure transparency, consistency, and ethical rigor in all aspects of the publication process.

  1. Scope and Submission Criteria: JHH publishes original research articles and critical reviews that advance understanding in the fields of:
    1. Catchment hydrology, vadose zone hydrology, and biohydrology;
    2. Theoretical, experimental, and computational hydromechanics;
    3. Multiphase flows, and emerging frontiers in fluid dynamics.

All submissions must be scientifically rigorous, clearly written, and within the journal’s thematic scope.

  1. Peer Review Process: All manuscripts undergo a single-blind peer review by at least two independent experts in the field. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely assessments. The editorial team ensures that the review process is fair, impartial, and free from conflicts of interest.
  2. Editorial Independence and Decision-Making: Editors make publication decisions based solely on the scientific merit, originality, and relevance of the submission. Institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, or other non-scientific factors play no role in editorial decisions. The Editor-in-Chief has the final responsibility for all editorial decisions.
  3. Transparency and Open Access: JHH is an open-access journal. All published articles are freely available to the global research community without subscription or publication fees. This model promotes wide dissemination and accessibility while maintaining strict editorial and ethical standards.
  4. Data Availability and Reproducibility: Authors are encouraged to share data, models, and code relevant to their research to foster reproducibility. When possible, data should be deposited in public repositories, with appropriate access links provided in the manuscript.
  5. Correction and Retraction Policy: In cases where errors, ethical concerns, or research misconduct are identified post-publication, JHH will act in accordance with COPE guidelines. This may involve issuing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern depending on the nature and severity of the issue.
  6. Appeals and Complaints: Authors who disagree with editorial decisions may submit a written appeal, clearly stating the basis of their request. Appeals are reviewed by an independent member of the editorial board. Complaints regarding ethical or procedural issues can also be submitted confidentially to the Editor-in-Chief.
  7. Diversity and Inclusion: JHH values diversity in scientific dialogue and strives to ensure inclusiveness in its authorship, editorial board, and reviewer community. Submissions from underrepresented regions and early-career researchers are welcomed and encouraged.
